Geocaching

Gaschurn-partenen's latest attraction is a caching area especially for the new breed of "geocachers". Geocaching - a kind of GPS hide and seek - is in essence a modern treasur hunt. A geocacher hides a treasure chest in an interesting location, the cache to contain some items for swapping and a log book, and publishes the GPS coordinates on the Internet. Anyone can the hunt for the cache, swap an item inside it, enter their name in the logbook and therefor become a fully-fledged geocacher. The fascination of the new pastime is multi-faceted: the infinite variety of landscape in which the cache is hidden, the many different types of people who are attracted to play. Some see geocaching as an additional incentive to go on a strenuous mountain hike, some just like the thrill of the chase, others like to make a day excursion of it and involve the kids. Some relish the element of mystery, ohters like the challenge of fighting through impassable terrain, yet more are really there for scenery and see the treasur hunt as asmall diversion.
