From the holistic point of view of tourism experts, the Montafon is an amazing and successful exception in the Alps. Located on the northern edge, there is plenty of natural snow on the high mountains in winter – a benefit for all winter sports enthusiasts. In summer, the landscape itself allows for a wide variety of activities – a plus for nature lovers.
In addition, the 8 tourism locations in the Montafon have a varied, modern tourist infrastructure that can be used all year round. This also includes the option of being able to cover 27 kilometres of piste with snow. In this valley, everything is in season all year round. Your investment pays off every single day.
Investing in new heights
In 1937, the largest ski jump in Austria was built in Tschagguns and was used for numerous ski jumping events until it was closed down in the 1960s. After the re-opening in 2014, the Tschagguns ski jumping centre now features modern architecture with four mat ski jumps embedded in the slope, plus functional buildings and a rail shuttle. The Montafon is thus focusing on the future. In addition to being a training centre for qualified young jumpers, the new ski jumping centre has already been the venue for numerous ski jumping events such as the European Youth Olympic Games in 2015 or the FIS Nordic Combined in 2019. Around 35 athletes, among them world and Olympic champions from 7 nations were present at these events.
Investing in the future
Hotel and infrastructure projects in the Montafon
The Montafon records around 2 million overnight stays per year. In order to remain attractive for guests as a tourist region and for locals as a place to live, we need to invest in the future. This increases the added value in the valley and secures jobs at the same time.
“If you look back over the last 20 years, of approx. 24,000 beds, only 16,000 are still actively available on the market,” explains Manuel Bitschnau, Managing Director of the Montafon Tourism Office. More quality beds are needed to compensate for this declining trend. It is important that, if possible, investments are made on already developed land so that there is no room for exploitation of the natural habitat. “It is also very pleasing that over 110 private holiday flats have been built over the last three years,” says Manuel Bitschnau. Several projects by local and foreign investors are currently being planned. We would like to introduce you to some of the projects and objects that have already been completed.
Experience connection in a new way.
This is what everyone visiting the new Silvretta Park from December 2021 has in store. The locations of the valley, middle and summit stations as well as the route remain the same. The stations are being rebuilt and the gondolas replaced by the new D-Line from Doppelmayr. They have 10 seats with seat warmers and twist-in system with indoor ski racks – a significant improvement in quality compared to the old lift. An underground car park, an Intersport shop, a hotel and food outlets are also being built at the same time as the conversion of the Valisera Bahn.
Planned opening winter season 2021/2022
With the Silvretta Park, a place with quality of stay is being created where people can meet and feel comfortable and get everything they need for an eventful day on the mountain.
- Terminal: new, comfortable and eventful entry portal

- Disabled access via escalator to cable car
- Cableway ticket offices and pick-up stations
- Intersport shop with ski depot and Kästle Test&Buy Centre
- Market hall gastronomy as well as public restaurant and bar in the new Revier Hotel

For all mountain fans
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in autumn 2018 and the opening in July. Located exactly on the municipal border of Schruns and Tschagguns, it is TUI BLUE's second hotel in Austria. The hotel has 149 rooms, a restaurant with a terrace, bar, fitness and spa area and two seminar rooms. In peak season, the TUI BLUE provides jobs for around 60 employees.
Skiing fun in the Montafon
After almost 30 years of planning, the valley run in Gaschurn is finally being completed. The slope starts at the Versettla Bahn summit station, continues to the middle station and ends at the valley station in Gaschurn. The resort's own artificial snowblower ensures that, in the future, skiers will be able to ski directly into town on perfectly groomed slopes from December to April – in keeping with the motto “ski-in and ski-out”. The opening is scheduled for the coming winter season.
Joy of life in the Montafon
An unusual hotel concept: it tells the story of Amrai, a girl from the valley who accompanies the guests during their holiday. More than half of the 48 rooms are spacious suites. These can be combined in many ways, whether for quality time for two or a family holiday. The “Amrai's Stollen” wellness area is another highlight, a tribute to the ancient Montafon industry of mining.
The family-run traditional Hotel Fernblick in Bartholomäberg has been diligently working on renovations in recent months. Guests can look forward to a 3,000 m2 wellness area with two additional floors including extensive relaxation spaces and a sauna landscape. Two new pools invite you to linger. The number of beds has also been extended by 18 new rooms. The panorama restaurant has been enlarged as well.
For the employees
52 accommodation units, a large lounge including a kitchen, a laundry room and a fitness room. The Löwen Hotel attaches great importance to making its employees feel at home. The rooms are between 22 and 28 m2 in size and well equipped, from a bathroom and private balcony to a small kitchenette and flat-screen TV. In addition, an unusual building concept was chosen. The two team houses were built using a modular timber construction method.
Quote from Isolde Liebherr (Hotel Löwen Montafon):
“It’s easy to explain why the Liebherr Group runs its 4-star superior Hotel Löwen in the tourist destination of the Montafon: our business partners and friends from all over the world feel just as at home here as we do. It feels like you’re part of a big family. You just feel very at ease and comfortable.”
60 years in operation
The concession for the old cableway expired and construction work for the new cableway started back in October 2019. The cableway technology, the cabin and the cable were renewed. The valley and summit station were excluded from the conversion as they were renovated in 2008. There is room for 65 people in the cabin. This also reduces waiting times for guests. It was opened to the public on 8 August 2020.
The Montafon is an absolute TOP performer in the event segment.
In addition to the Montafon World Cup, which takes place every year at the start of the season with a successful supporting programme in December, the Montafon Arlberg Marathon in the summer also contributes to this top performance. The world's mountain bike elite meet here in July each year. In 2015 we started off big with the European Winter Olympic Youth Festival (EYOF) on our newly built ski jumps in the Montafon Nordic Ski Jumping Centre in Tschagguns. Our events attract numerous visitors to the Montafon every year in summer and winter.
