St. Anton in the Montafon in Vorarlberg

At the entrance to the Montafon, the tranquil village of St. Anton lies in heavily forested surroundings.

As a starting point for diverse hikes and activities, there is a spectacular via ferrata high up between the two thundering waterfalls above the town centre for climbing lovers. After the vertical tour, animal lovers can discover a little paradise with organic, free-range eggs from happy hens and organic products from Montafon cattle on the flagship organic farm Gavadura.

Waterfall via ferrata

In the vertical space between thundering waterfalls

A vertical rock face, two thundering waterfalls, two rope bridges and a fantastic view – the new via ferrata in St. Anton in the Montafon. With a degree of difficulty of C (difficult) and D (very difficult), the impressive climbing route is a real challenge even for ambitious climbing enthusiasts.

Numerous volunteers installed around 550 metres of wire rope in around 700 hours of work. “The most important conditions for the implementation of the project were the rock quality and the nature of the terrain,” explain Leander Bitschnau and Manfred Kessler. The two experienced mountain guides have already planned and implemented some via ferratas in the Montafon. The via ferrata is traversable at almost all times of the year and also easy to access, however, it begins above the town centre. The descent runs over the Marentes-Jetzmunt hiking trail back into the village.

Did you know that...

the bewusstmontafon association promotes regional products along with farmers, restaurants and retail trade?

“Conventional livestock farming is not worth considering for us anymore.”

Gentle fighter

“The Montafon is a paradise for anyone who seeks out nature,” says Alexandra Battlogg. She helps make sure that it will be like this for a long time to come on the Biohof Gavadura in St. Anton. She is also delighted about the ever increasing number of like-minded people.

From the outset, the Battloggs have made the case for original Montafon cattle. Ten heifers reside on the farm along with 500 hens. Whatever nature offers on the farm in terms of primary products is refined on Gavadura. The range of products in the farm shop ranges from meat to multiple-award-winning brandy and spirits. Everything is carefully labelled and packaged – a very nice way to show respect and appreciation towards nature.
