The flower village, once crowned the most beautiful in Europe, is by the imposing Vandans rock wall. Here you can find rural charm and an intriguing mix of modern architecture and traditional Montafon houses. With the Golmerbahn you will reach the family-friendly skiing and hiking area of Erlebnisberg Golm – the starting of point for diverse downhill runs in winter and extensive high-altitude hikes in the warmer months of the year. Passing by the imposing peaks of the Rätikon and Lünersee with its crystal-clear water.

Setting off from Vandans, climbing enthusiasts can find ample opportunity in the Rätikon to sound out their limits on the famous Kirchlispitzen or majestic Zimba – the Montafon’s Matterhorn.

Zimba - the climbing mountain for the truly daring

It is enthroned upon the entrance of the Montafon and, with its 2,643 metres, it is the highlight of the Vandans rock wall in the truest sense of the word. Its shape makes it one of the most beautiful peaks in the Rätikon. We are talking about the Zimba, of course.

Gustl Wolf can still remember his first Zimba ascent. At the age of 16, he reached the summit via the eastern ridge, the most difficult route. Now he has stood next to the wooden summit cross several hundred times. He accompanies many tours as a mountain guide. “Climbing to the summit with excited Alpinists is a new and special experience every time,” says the Montafon native.

Arriving at the top, a breathtaking view awaits the Alpinists. “With perfect conditions, sailboats on Lake Constance can be seen from the end of Vorarlberg”, says Gustl Wolf.
