The marathon

The supreme discipline

A breath-taking 42,195 kilometres and 1,500 vertical metres

The Montafon Arlberg Marathon powered by Sparkasse runs primarily along forest and hiking paths through the Nature 2000 area Verwall, far from roads with cars. After starting at the fire station in Silbertal, runners first make a loop around the village. Cheered by hundreds of spectators, the route then leads once again past the start to the rear of Silbertal. The 18 kilometres-long ascent of the forest road to the Oberen Fresch Alpe at 1,890 metres asks everything of the participants. The following trail leads past the beautiful Langsee lake to Winterjöchle in Silbertal, the highest point of the marathon at 1,945 metres, offering the most lovely landscape option for crossing the state border to Tyrol. The route continues uphill, primarily on forest paths, to the Konstanzer Chalet (1,688 m) through Verwall valley. After an additional ascent along Sattelwaldweg, it continues down to the finish line in St. Anton am Arlberg.
