Experience alpine natural hazards up close

At the Montafon Natural Hazards Action Center in Vandans, visitors gain exciting insights into a topic that has always shaped the Alpine habitat and continues to have a significant impact on life today: Alpine natural hazards. During the guided tour, Wolfgang explains developments in the Montafon region – from early human responses to natural hazards and the establishment of torrent and avalanche control measures to their current organization and functioning. Key hazards such as avalanches, floods, rockfalls, and landslides are discussed with a strong local focus, using historical disaster events and current prevention measures as examples. A special focus of the exhibition is on the central role of protective forests, which have always been an essential element of alpine safety in the Montafon. To convey this information in a clear and vivid way, the new exhibition space uses modern media, including an interactive 3D terrain model that allows visitors to follow past events and possible scenarios. In addition, audio and video stations feature contemporary witnesses and experts who share their personal experiences of dealing with natural hazards.
