Gargellner backpack reading

"From the wide world and into the wide world" is the motto under which teatro caprile and the duo "BreitbÄnd" with Thomas Bärenzung present stories, songs, music and short scenes about the Montafon and Gargellen.

Katharina Grabher and Andreas Kosek's teatro caprile has been operating for thirty years on the Vienna - Gargellen axis, but also far beyond. It has become well-known in the Montafon through its theater hikes and its backpack reading at the Montafon Resonances. This year's event is dedicated to historical hiking movements between the Montafon and the "wider world", for example through tourism, which began comparatively early due to the railroad line to Schruns. Hearty mountain guides and ski instructors impressed the townspeople who had arrived. They brought their way of life with radio and newspapers, their fashion and their taste in music to the mountain world and also enjoyed the local traditional costumes and folk music.

The teatro caprile also dedicates this reading to the "Swabian children". Poorer families sent their children to work for wealthy farmers in Swabia during the summer months in order to have fewer people at the table and to earn some money. It sounds tragic, but it wasn't always, if you were lucky with your host family. Because there was plenty of food and the odd item of clothing or pair of shoes. These "Swabian children" enjoyed a good reputation back home in Montafon, as they not only brought money to the valley, but also knowledge of the big "wide world".
