Cattle Drive from the Wasserstubenalpe

The Almabtrieb (ceremonial cattle drive) from the Wasserstubenalpe will take place on Saturday, 12 September 2026. The beautifully adorned cows are expected to arrive at the Panoramagasthof Kristberg at around 11:30 a.m., where they will be handed over to their owners (farmers). Some farmers will load their animals into special livestock trailers, while others will make the journey home on foot with their cattle.

Decorated animals are a traditional sign of a successful and accident-free alpine summer.

From the terrace of the Panoramagasthof Kristberg, you’ll enjoy a perfect view of the entire event — from the herding and sorting to the loading of the animals. You'll be right in the middle of it all!

The Panoramagasthof Kristberg, where the children's face painting takes place, is only accessible via the Montafoner Kristbergbahn (timetable), on foot (e.g. via Innerberg – approx. 3 km / about 1 hour), or by E-bike or mountain bike.

IMPORTANT: The private and single-lane cooperative road from Silbertal to Kristberg may only be used with a valid driving permit (authorisation slip) and/or a valid written reservation confirmation (exclusively for overnight guests). Failure to comply may result in a fine of € 700.00.
