Montafon storytelling culture route

The Montafon Alpine Mosaic showcases the scenic diversity of the Montafon region. Four themed areas—Verwall, Silvretta, Rätikon, and the valley—illustrate how geology, nature, and the cultural landscape are interconnected.

Along 34 themed trails, you can discover the unique features of these diverse landscapes. Starting points, themes, and stories along the trails continually offer you new perspectives on the Montafon.

Starting Point
Silbertal, Kristbergbahn valley station

Directions
From the Kristbergbahn valley station, this short loop through the village takes you along the Litz River toward the end of the valley to the open-air stage of the Montafon Legend Festival.

From there, you’ll hike above Silbertal through the shady forest back toward the town center. Along the way, you’ll be treated to repeated views of the village and the Kristberg. Benches, fountains, and places to stop for refreshments line the path back to the starting point.

Getting to the Starting Point
The starting point for the tour is the Kristbergbahn valley station in Silbertal.

By public transportation:
The Landbus Montafon and the Montafonerbahn offer a convenient and flexible way to get around the valley. Trains and buses run regularly between the towns, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. Find the right connection for you HERE. By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit, then follow the Montafonerstraße L188 to Schruns. From there, you’ll reach Silbertal. Paid parking is available at the Kristbergbahn valley station.

For the local tour, we recommend comfortable, sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.

Take some time along the way to explore the legends of the Montafon. You can listen to many of the stories in the local dialect and in Standard German, allowing you to delve even deeper into the storytelling tradition of the Silbertal.
