Zamangspitze summit path

The Montafon Alpine Mosaic showcases the scenic diversity of the Montafon. Four exploration areas—Verwall, Silvretta, Rätikon, and the valley—highlight how geology, nature, and the cultural landscape are interconnected.

Starting point
Upper station of the Hochalpila Cable Car

Directions
From the top station of the Hochalpila Cable Car, you’ll first hike toward the Kreuzjoch. The wide trail takes you past several scenic viewpoints to the top station of the Panorama Cable Car. Just beyond that, the ascent to Kreuzjoch begins. Once you reach the top, a sweeping view of the Montafon Valley and your next destination, the Zamangspitze, opens up before you.

From Kreuzjoch, first head back along the same trail, then follow the Panoramaweg toward Zamangspitze. At a fork in the trail, you can choose between two routes. The direct alpine trail to the summit is very exposed and secured only in places with a wire rope. Alpine experience, sure-footedness, and a head for heights are absolutely essential here. As an easier alternative, the trail passes below the summit and ascends to the Zamangspitze from the other side.

After reaching the summit, head back down and follow the trail toward Zamangalpe. From Zamangalpe, the alpine trail eventually leads you back to the Grasjoch Bahn mountain station.

Getting to the Starting Point
The starting point for the tour is the upper station of the Hochalpila Railway. Please note the operating hours of the Grasjoch Railway and the Hochalpila Railway.

By public transportation:
With the Landbus Montafon and the Montafonerbahn, you can get around the valley comfortably and flexibly. Trains and buses connect the towns regularly, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. You can find the right connection for you HERE. By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit. Then follow Montafonerstraße L188 to St. Gallenkirch and the Grasjoch Cable Car. Parking is available at the Valisera Cable Car’s valley station.

Sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing are required for this hike. For the alpine route to the Zamangspitze, you’ll also need to be sure-footed and have a head for heights.

A visit to the Wormser Hütte is worth a short detour.

Take some time to enjoy the panoramic views from the Kreuzjoch and the Zamangspitze. From these two peaks, you can get a particularly good view of the different mountain regions of the Montafon.
