Bergkirche Gargellen

Church | Chapel
Gargellnerstr. 39, 6787 Gargellen

The church was built between 1611 and 1617.

In 1622, the church was severely damaged during the Prätigau invasion and was finally consecrated by Bishop Johann VI after its restoration in 1644. Between 1791 and 1792, the parish church was enlarged, and a year later, the church tower was built based on old designs. From 1980 to 1981, the church was renovated both inside and out. In 1999, the dilapidated church roof had to be completely replaced. During this renovation, a painted-over, relatively well-preserved 18th-century fresco was discovered on the vaulted ceiling near the high altar. Thanks to a masterful restoration, this fresco was successfully restored.
