Church Latschau​-​ Tschagguns

The construction of the church in Latschau is closely linked to the expansion of hydroelectric power generation by Vorarlberger Illwerke. As a result of the construction of the Lünersee power plant, the population of Latschau grew rapidly, and the old chapel could no longer meet the parish’s spiritual needs. The Vorarlberg architects German Meusburger and Walter Ramerstorfer provided the plans for the new building, which was completed in 1965/66, which features a rectangular structure with a slightly pointed altar and entrance wall and a gabled roof that slopes down strikingly low, in keeping with the concept of the “Tent of God.” Of particular artistic note are the concrete-glass windows depicting the Transfiguration of Christ and St. Anthony—for which the Vorarlberg painter Martin Häusle provided the designs—as well as the late-Gothic Madonna on the altar wall.
