Tour description

A scenic loop hike over the Gantakopf with sweeping views of the Rätikon, Verwall, and Silvretta ranges, as well as a delightful place to stop for a break at Alpe Nova.

This loop trail combines a spectacular summit experience with a variety of scenic views. From the scenic mountain ridge, sweeping views open up onto the surrounding mountains of the Rätikon, Verwall, and Silvretta ranges. Forests and pastures alternate, repeatedly offering glimpses of the valley and the Maisäß settlement of Garfrescha along the way.

The tour also has plenty to offer in terms of cuisine. At Alpe Nova, you can sample regional specialties such as Montafon Sura Kees, which is produced there during the summer months in the alpine dairy.

What is the Montafon Alpine Mosaic?

The Montafon Alpine Mosaic showcases the scenic diversity of the Montafon. Four exploration areas—Verwall, Silvretta, Rätikon, and the valley—reveal how geology, nature, and the cultural landscape are intertwined.

Along 34 themed trails, you can discover the unique features of these diverse landscapes. Starting points, themes, and stories along the trails continually offer you new perspectives on the Montafon.

So: Choose an exploration area, lace up your hiking boots, and discover the diversity of the Montafon step by step.

You can find more information about the Montafon Alpine Mosaic HERE.

Getting to the Starting Point
The starting point for the tour is the Garfrescha Bahn mountain station in St. Gallenkirch. Please note the operating hours of the Grasjoch Bahn and the Hochalpila Bahn.

By public transportation:
The Montafon Landbus and the Montafonerbahn offer a convenient and flexible way to get around the valley. Trains and buses run regularly between the towns, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. You can find the right connection for you HERE. Bus stop at the start/end of this tour: St. Gallenkirch Garfrescha Cable Car

By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit, then follow the Montafoner Straße L188 to St. Gallenkirch. When you see signs for the Garfrescha Bahn, turn right and follow the road to the valley station. Free parking is available there.

Important Information

For this hike, we recommend ankle-high hiking boots with good traction. Hiking poles can be especially helpful on steeper sections.

On hot days, you should also bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen.

Tips

When you stop for a break at Alpe Nova, be sure to try the Montafon Sura Kees, a regional specialty produced there during the summer months at the on-site dairy.
