Tour description
This high-alpine stage of the Silvretta Circuit in Montafon leads from the Silvretta Hut (SAC) over the Rote Furka to the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe, flanked by glaciers and Vorarlberg’s highest peaks.
This stage winds through the high-Alpine landscape of the Silvretta, where glaciers from the last Ice Age and numerous peaks over 3,000 meters high set the backdrop. On the ascent to the Rote Furka, you’ll get a close-up view of the glacial landscape before crossing the border back into Austria at the pass summit.
As the route continues, it takes you through the Klostertal valley down to Lake Silvretta and the Bielerhöhe. At the end of the stage, a view opens up of Piz Buin, which at 3,312 meters is Vorarlberg’s highest mountain and one of the most striking peaks in the Silvretta.

Directions
From the Silvrettahütte SAC, the trail leads you uphill to the Rote Furka. Along the way, you’ll pass the tongue of the Silvretta Glacier. At the pass summit, you’ll cross the border into Austria. The trail then descends through the Klostertal valley toward Lake Silvretta. Along the way, you’ll pass the Klostertaler Environmental Hut. Once you reach Silvrettasee, the trail continues along the eastern shore—due to the current closure of the western shore—to the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe.

Important Information
Alpine Trail: The trail may include safety ropes and footholds.
For this hike, we recommend sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction, plenty of food and drinking water, and weather-appropriate clothing. Hiking poles can help you during the ascents and descents.
Route along Lake Silvretta: Due to the trail closure on the west shore, the route to Silvretta-Bielerhöhe currently runs along the east shore.
Tips
Have your camera ready. The high-alpine landscape, with its glaciers and the striking peaks of the Silvretta, offers numerous special views and photo opportunities along the way.
