Freeriding in the Montafon, Vorarlberg

Untouched freedom awaits in the ski areas beyond the pistes.

Impressive landscapes and untouched slopes have a special attraction
High-Alpine deep snow descents, various terrains, spectacular cliffs and steep gullies - the Montafon in the south of Vorarlberg has everything that off-piste riders dream of in the Alps. The ski areas - especially Silvretta Montafon - provide athletic challenges beyond the prepared routes.

When skiing and snowboarding in open terrain, the proper handling of the topic of Alpine safety is very important. If you want to rely on a pro when it comes to selecting a spot while taking the current weather and snow conditions in Vorarlberg into account, you can turn to a mountain guide. They will safely accompany you through the terrain on guided tours.

Freerider safety first!

It snowed heavily during the night and you are looking forward to lots of fresh powder? Before you head off into the backcountry, be sure to check the avalanche report! Don't forget: The avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe are of course always with you in the Montafon off-piste! However, professional equipment is not everything. When skiing and snowboarding in open terrain, please stay within the permitted areas and keep an eye on the snow conditions. This is the only way to make freeriding a safe pleasure!

Attention freeride newcomers: The Freeride Safety Check takes place every Monday in the Silvretta Montafon ski area! There you will expand your knowledge and experience in the free ski area by observing nature, terrain and snow depths. In addition, avalanche search is trained under the supervision of a mountain expert.

The freeriding hot spot in the Montafon

The Silvretta Montafon offers the finest powder runs

The largest ski area in the Montafon has developed into the ideal freeride area for beginners and true professionals: marked routes, lots of space to make lines, and less-travelled back-country areas. Drop in, find your line, enjoy the powder! If not in the Silvretta Montafon ski area, then where?

Enjoy the backyard in the Montafon!

The Montafon and its freeride possibilities are ingenious. The Novatal offers endless space to draw lines, which is also ideally suited for freeride beginners. But if even this is not enough, you can let off steam in the huge, little-travelled backcountry area, often for several days after snowfall. The Hochjoch is a well-known freeride area - it is not for nothing that the Freeride World Tour has already been a guest at the Hochjoch. The area around the Kreuzjoch is the ideal "freeride playground" with short but steep runs. Further towards Grasjoch, the true freeride heart of Hochjoch opens up to the riders - open white space as far as the eye can see...
Gargellen is an optimal and varied freeride terrain with easily accessible deep snow and firn slopes.
