Tour description

A challenging road bike route from Aktivpark Montafon through Bludenz and Brand to the Lünerseebahn valley station. Long climbs, the quiet Alte Brandnertalstraße, and the winding return trip via Bürserberg make this tour particularly varied. If you have a little extra time, you can leave your road bike at the valley station and take the Lünerseebahn up to Lake Lünersee.

Starting at Aktivpark Montafon, the tour first takes you out of the valley through St. Anton im Montafon and Lorüns to Bludenz and on to Bürs. There, the long climb into the Brandnertal begins. Via the Alte Brandnertalstraße, you’ll reach Brand and then continue along the Schattenlagantstraße to the valley station of the Lünerseebahn.

After a break, head back to Brand. For the return trip, take the route via Bürserberg and enjoy sweeping views of the Walgau along the way. From Bürs and Bludenz, the route finally leads back into the Montafon and to the Aktivpark Montafon.

Starting Point - Directions - End Point

Starting point:
Aktivpark Montafon in Schruns-Tschagguns

Directions:
From the Aktivpark Montafon, first ride out of the valley via Gantschier to St. Anton im Montafon. Continue via Lorüns and Brunnenfeld to Bludenz.

Pass through Bludenz toward Bürs. At the second roundabout, take the third exit and turn left shortly afterward onto the Flurweg. Follow this road until you reach the Unterrainweg. After crossing, continue straight ahead along Flurweg, Gamplumweg, and Werkstraße. Then turn left onto Hinterbrugweg and afterward onto the dirt road.

Now the climb begins along Alte Brandnertalstraße. Through meadows and wooded sections, you’ll steadily gain elevation until you reach Brand. There, you’ll rejoin the main road and follow it into the valley through the town.

At the edge of town, the next climb begins on Schattenlagantstraße. The road winds its way up in several switchbacks toward Schattenlagant. You’ll pass the Schattenlaganthütte and, shortly afterward, reach the valley station of the Lünerseebahn, the highest point of the tour.

From there, you’ll ride back to Brand along the same route. For the rest of the return trip, after passing through the village, follow the road toward Bürserberg. The route winds downhill toward Bürs, offering scenic views along the way.

Via Bludenz, Brunnenfeld, Lorüns, St. Anton im Montafon, and Gantschier, you’ll finally make your way back to Schruns-Tschagguns.

End point:
Aktivpark Montafon in Schruns-Tschagguns

Tips

A detour to Lünersee: If you plan enough time, you can leave your road bike at the valley station and take the Lünerseebahn up the mountain. Once at the top, it’s worth taking a detour to Lünersee and the Douglasshütte.

Stop at Schattenlagant: The Schattenlaganthütte, located just before the valley station, is a great spot for a break before heading back down.

Panoramic views on the return trip: On the section over Bürserberg, sweeping views of Bludenz and across the Walgau valley open up time and again.

Pace Yourself: The climb doesn’t end in Brand. From there, the Schattenlagantstraße offers more elevation gain all the way to the Lünerseebahn valley station. Especially on warm days, be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks.
