Tour description

Two varied practice via ferratas right next to the Wiesbadener Hut offer ideal conditions for a first taste of rock climbing. The high-alpine setting at the foot of Piz Buin makes the climbing experience particularly impressive.

At the climbing area near the hut, you’ll find two renovated practice via ferrata routes with difficulty levels A/B and B/C. This makes them suitable for both beginners and anyone looking to improve their technique.

The offerings are complemented by numerous sport climbing routes as well as other training and climbing opportunities around the hut. Thanks to its location at over 2,300 meters, the area is particularly attractive in midsummer and can be ideally combined with a bike-and-climb tour.

You can find more information on the Wiesbadener Hütte website

Start - Directions - Descent

Approach

From the starting point at Bielerhöhe, the hike takes about 2 to 2.5 hours to reach the Wiesbadener Hütte. From there, it takes about five minutes to reach the climbing area with its two practice via ferratas.

Directions

The two via ferratas are located in the climbing area near the Wiesbadener Hütte. The easier route, rated A/B, is particularly well-suited for first-time climbers and for getting familiar with the equipment.

The B/C-rated route offers slightly more challenging sections and allows you to further develop your via ferrata technique in easily accessible terrain.

Descent

After exiting the via ferrata, a short path leads you back to the climbing area and the Wiesbadener Hütte. The descent into the valley then follows the same route as the ascent.

Getting to the starting point

The Silvretta High Alpine Road is expected to remain closed until summer 2030. Therefore, in the summer, you cannot reachthe Bielerhöhe from the Montafon by car or public transportation via the High Alpine Road; instead, you’ll need to take the Vermuntbahn from Partenen and then transfer to the tunnel bus.

You can find more information here.

By Public Transportation

With the Landbus Montafon and the Montafonerbahn, you can travel comfortably and flexibly throughout the valley. The train and bus connect the towns regularly, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. You can find suitable connections in the cleVVVer mobil schedule app. The nearest stop is “Partenen Bergbahnen Talstation.” From there, you can reach the Vermuntbahn valley station in just a few minutes on foot.

By car

By car, drive to Partenen to the valley stations of the Vermuntbahn or Tafamuntbahn. The two valley stations are just a few minutes’ walk apart. Parking is available near the valley stations. Since parking conditions may change due to construction work, please follow the current on-site signage and check in advance for available parking spaces.

Important Information

You climb the via ferrata at your own risk and on your own responsibility. Please check the weather, current conditions, snow conditions, and difficulty level in advance. Realistically assess your experience, surefootedness, ability to handle heights, and physical fitness.

A complete set of standard-compliant via ferrata equipment is absolutely essential. This includes a hip belt, via ferrata set, helmet, and gloves. Equally important is appropriate footwear: sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction.

Your backpack should also include plenty of food, sun and rain protection, and a first-aid kit.

In the Montafon, you can rent high-quality via ferrata equipment at select sports shops. Please check in advance regarding availability, sizes, and reservation options.

Tips

Combine the practice via ferratas with a Bike & Climb tour and cover part of the approach on a mountain bike. This way, even the hike to the Wiesbadener Hütte becomes a varied mountain adventure.

You can make the tour especially relaxing by planning an overnight stay at the Wiesbadener Hütte. This leaves you more time for climbing, enjoying the scenery, and exploring other routes around Piz Buin.
