Tour description

A scenic loop hike from Bartholomäberg over the Rellseck and the Itonskopf, offering sweeping panoramic views and fascinating glimpses into the cultural landscape shaped by mining.

This circular hike combines scenic high-altitude trails with traces of mining history on the Bartholomäberg. Already at Rellseck, the view opens up over Bludenz and the Walgau, before the trail leads you onward toward Itonskopf.

At the summit, a 360-degree panorama of the surrounding mountains awaits you. On the way back, two other notable landmarks along the route are the Fritzensee and the historic mine.

What is the Montafon Alpine Mosaic?

The Montafon Alpine Mosaic showcases the scenic diversity of the Montafon. Four exploration areas—Verwall, Silvretta, Rätikon, and the valley—reveal how geology, nature, and the cultural landscape are interconnected.

Along 34 themed trails, you can discover the unique features of these diverse landscapes. Starting points, themes, and stories along the trails will continually offer you new perspectives on the Montafon.

So: Choose an exploration area, lace up your hiking boots, and discover the diversity of the Montafon step by step.

You can find more information about the Montafon Alpine Mosaic HERE.

From the Baroque church in Bartholomäberg, the trail first takes you toward Rellseck. You can cover this section either on foot or by taking the hiking bus.

From Rellseck, continue along the geological nature trail to the Monteneu rest area and up to the Wannaköpfle. Following a scenic high-altitude trail, you’ll eventually reach the base of the Itonskopf. The final section to the summit is rocky and partially secured with a steel cable. Sure-footedness is required here.

The return route takes you down a moderately steep slope to the Obere Wiese and then back to Bartholomäberg via farm roads, meadows, and forest trails.

We recommend wearing weather-appropriate clothing, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction, hiking poles, and bringing plenty of water.

Tips

The historic mine at Bartholomäberg is worth a visit. The St. Anna tunnel in the tourist mine is more than 1,000 years old and open to visitors for about 115 meters.

The Rellseck Alpine Inn is also a great place to stop for a break. Other interesting destinations along or near the trail include the Baroque church in Bartholomäberg, as well as activities centered around traditional crafts and the mountain breakfast at Rellseck.
