Tour description

At the Burg via ferrata, you can hone your climbing skills all year round: with just a few meters of elevation gain and a gentle incline, you’ll climb along a ridge—and enjoy unique views along the way!

This short via ferrata is ideal for families and beginners who want to gain their first experience or practice belaying techniques. The route follows the ridge with only a slight elevation gain and a gentle incline and can be hiked in either direction. Along the way, impressive views of the deep valleys below and vistas of the Heimspitze, Madrisella, Versettlaspitze, and the 3,000-meter peaks of the Silvretta open up.

The route can also be climbed in winter, though it is recommended only for experienced winter via ferrata climbers. In winter, the via ferrata is rated difficulty C.

Access

After taking the Versettla Bahn up the mountain, you’ll reach the trailhead in about 15 minutes. From the top station, first follow hiking trail 10, the “Madrisella Summit Trail.” After about 15 minutes, turn right toward the summit. The path leads uphill near the power poles to the start of the climb.

Route Description

The via ferrata is very well suited for families and beginners who want to gain their first experiences or practice belaying techniques. The route follows the ridge with only a few meters of elevation gain and a gentle incline. It spans approximately 200 meters of rope length, covers about 30 meters of elevation gain, and faces north-northeast. The difficulty level is A/B, and the pure via ferrata time is about 45 minutes. You can find more detailed information about the route in the topo.

Along the way, impressive views open up of the Heimspitze, Madrisella, and Versettlaspitze. In the “second row,” the 3,000-meter peaks of the Silvretta Group come into view.

Descent

From the exit, you can reach the Versettla Bahn mountain station in just over 30 minutes via a hiking trail. Alternatively, you can climb back down the via ferrata and return to the mountain station via the approach trail. Afterward, it’s worth stopping for a break on the terrace of the Nova Stoba.

Wichtige Hinweise

This via ferrata is inspected regularly but does not have an official opening or closing status. The listed season is provided for your guidance only.

You undertake this climb at your own risk and responsibility. Please check the weather, current conditions, snow conditions, and difficulty level before every tour. Especially during transitional seasons like spring and fall, snow, ice, wet conditions, or sudden weather changes can make the climb significantly more difficult or even impossible.

Realistically assess your experience, sure-footedness, lack of vertigo, and physical fitness. Complete, standard-compliant via ferrata equipment is absolutely essential. This includes a hip belt, via ferrata set, helmet, and gloves. Sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction are equally important.

Your backpack should also include sufficient food, sun and rain protection, and a first-aid kit.

In the Montafon, you can rent high-quality via ferrata equipment at select sports shops. Please check in advance regarding availability, sizes, and reservation options.
