via ferrata Rongg

Access

Directly across from the valley station of the Gargellner Bergbahnen, a trail leads to the church. From there, walk past the Hotel Madrisa along a meadow path toward the Rongg Waterfall. After crossing a small wooden bridge, you’ll reach the entrance to the gorge. From the parking lot at the Gargellner Bergbahnen, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the entrance.

Route Description

The Rongg via ferrata is short but impressive and runs right alongside the Rongg Waterfall. Right at the start, you cross the stream via a rope bridge. This is followed by short, steep, and exposed sections on the rock face, accompanied by the roaring waterfall. The more difficult sections require sure-footedness, a head for heights, and concentration. You can find more detailed information on the difficulty levels in the topo.

Descent

The descent leads past the scenic Ronggalpe back to the center of Gargellen.

The starting point is the valley station of the Gargellen mountain railways or the center of Gargellen.

By public transportation:
With the Montafon regional bus and the Montafonerbahn, you can get around the valley comfortably and flexibly. The train and bus connect the towns regularly, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. Find your connection here. Bus stop at the start/end of this tour: Gargellen Zentrum

By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit and continue on the Montafonerstraße L188 to St. Gallenkirch. There, turn right onto Gargellnerstraße and follow it to Gargellen.

You climb the via ferrata at your own risk and responsibility. Please check the weather, current conditions, snow conditions, and difficulty level in advance. Realistically assess your experience, sure-footedness, ability to handle heights, and physical fitness.

Complete, standard-compliant via ferrata equipment is absolutely essential. This includes a hip belt, via ferrata set, helmet, and gloves. Equally important is appropriate footwear: sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction.

Your backpack should also contain sufficient food, sun and rain protection, and a first-aid kit.

In the Montafon, you can rent high-quality via ferrata equipment at select sports shops. Please check in advance regarding availability, sizes, and reservation options.

Warning: Do not enter the gorge during thunderstorms, heavy rain, or high water levels. The via ferrata is intended for ascent only and must not be used for descent.

The Rongg via ferrata can be perfectly combined with the neighboring via ferrata through the Röbi Schlucht.
