Silvrettasee Via Ferrata

Access

From the Silvrettasee parking lot, follow the trail toward Madlenerhaus. A narrow path continues to the base of the dam, where the trailhead is located. Allow about 15 minutes for the approach. Alternatively, you can reach the trailhead directly from Madlenerhaus.

Route Description

The via ferrata crosses the dam in several sections. Artificial footholds and handholds, constructed using stones from the Silvretta, make the climb easier.
Along the way, you’ll find benches, a rope bridge, and a twelve-meter-long swinging pendulum. This can be bypassed via an easier route. After the final sections, you’ll climb up to the dam crest via a small platform.

Descent

From the exit, follow the dam crest back to the starting point. The return trip takes about five minutes.

The Silvretta High Alpine Road is expected to remain closed until summer 2030. Therefore, in the summer, you cannot reachthe Bielerhöhe from the Montafon by car or public transportation via the High Alpine Road; instead, you must take the Vermuntbahn from Partenen and then transfer to the tunnel bus.

By Public Transportation

With the Landbus Montafon and the Montafonerbahn, you can travel comfortably and flexibly throughout the valley. The train and bus connect the towns regularly, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. You can find suitable connections in the cleVVVer mobil schedule app. The nearest stop is “Partenen Bergbahnen Talstation.” From there, you can reach the Vermuntbahn valley station in just a few minutes on foot.

By car

By car, drive to Partenen to the valley stations of the Vermuntbahn or Tafamuntbahn. The two valley stations are just a few minutes’ walk apart. Parking is available near the valley stations. Since parking conditions may change due to construction work, please follow the current on-site signage and check in advance for available parking spaces.

You climb the via ferrata at your own risk and responsibility. Please check the weather, current conditions, snow conditions, and difficulty level in advance. Realistically assess your experience, surefootedness, ability to handle heights, and physical fitness.

A complete set of standard-compliant via ferrata equipment is absolutely essential. This includes a hip belt, via ferrata set, helmet, and gloves. Equally important is appropriate footwear: sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction.

Your backpack should also include plenty of food, sun and rain protection, and a first-aid kit.

In the Montafon, you can rent high-quality via ferrata equipment at select sports shops. Please check in advance regarding availability, sizes, and reservation options.

The benches built into the wall are ideal for enjoying the unique panoramic view in peace. Next to the via ferrata, the dam offers various climbing routes that are perfect for practicing multi-pitch climbs.
