A high-alpine and technically challenging mountain bike tour to the Wiesbadener Hut, offering impressive views of Piz Buin and the Ochsental Glacier.

Starting at Silvretta Park Montafon in St. Gallenkirch, the tour takes you through Partenen, the Ganifertal Valley, and past the Kops Reservoir, then on through Galtür to the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe and along Lake Silvretta into the Ochsental Valley. The steep and, in places, barely rideable gravel climb to the Wiesbadener Hütte requires a high level of fitness and riding skill, but rewards you with unobstructed views of the Ochsental Glacier and Piz Buin, the highest mountain in Vorarlberg.

(E-)Bike Transport to the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe

As an alternative to the ascent via the Ganifertal and the Kops Reservoir, you can have your (e-)bike transported from Partenen to the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe at 2,032 meters via the Vermuntbahn and the tunnel bus. Bike transport is available only for the ascent and must be reserved online in advance, as only a limited number of bikes can be transported per time slot. The return trip to the Montafon is made by bike via Galtür, the Kops Reservoir, and the Ganifertal.

The Silvretta High Alpine Road is expected to remain closed until the summer of 2030. This is due to several rockfalls and mudslides since 2024, as well as the extensive construction and protective measures required as a result. From 2026 to 2030, this tour will therefore only be possible via the Ganifertal Valley, the Kops Reservoir, and Galtür.

At Silvrettasee, you may only ride on the designated trails; considerate riding is especially important when there are large numbers of hikers, and pedestrians and hikers always have the right of way.

The ascent through the Ochsental Valley to the Wiesbadener Hütte is very steep, covered in coarse gravel, and in some sections barely rideable or not rideable at all. The tour is therefore best suited for physically fit and technically skilled mountain bikers, as well as for bike-and-hike or bike-and-climb tours.

The Wiesbadener Hut is an ideal starting point for alpine adventures around Piz Buin and the Ochsental Valley. Combining a mountain bike tour with a hiking or climbing trip is particularly appealing, as it significantly shortens the long approach.

A special highlight is the view of the Ochsental Glacier right next to the hut. The route also forms the final stage of the Vorarlberg Bike Trail “From Lake Constance to Piz Buin.”
