Winter hike Kristberg

On this guided winter walk, you’ll discover the Kristberg away from the groomed slopes. Enveloped in the stillness of winter, nature reveals its mysterious side – wintry forests, glistening moors, unique mountain pasture landscapes and the tracks of animals that brave the cold and remain active. Together with the nature guide, we’ll let our gaze wander over Vorarlberg’s largest European nature reserve, the Verwall – a truly special sanctuary and habitat. How do roe deer, foxes and ptarmigans survive the icy season? Which plants withstand the frost? And what stories do the tracks in the snow tell us? Together, we’ll set off on a peaceful winter walk, keeping our eyes open for the small details and consciously experiencing winter’s natural world. The highlight of the walk is the Ganzaleita viewpoint at around 1,600 metres – offering an impressive view of the Klostertal valley. A tour for anyone who wants to experience winter with their eyes wide open and all their senses alert.

Route: Depends on the weather and snow conditions

Duration: approx. 3-3.5 hours (pure walking: approx. 2-2.5 hours) | approx. 250 metres of elevation gain

Arrival: Why not just leave your car at home? Our tours are timed to coincide with the bus timetable. You can easily reach the starting point by public transport on bus route 680 (vmobil.at).

Equipment:

• Sturdy, waterproof winter or hiking boots with a good tread
• Possibly crampons & gaiters
• Several layers of warm sportswear suitable for the weather (ideally, the outer layer should be water-repellent: hardshell jacket, winter hiking trousers / ski or cross-country skiing trousers
• Sun protection (sunglasses, sun cream)
• Protection against the cold (hat/headband and gloves)
• Backpack containing a warm drink, a snack (there are no places to stop for refreshments until the end of the walk!) and, if necessary, a seat pad
• Hiking poles with winter baskets

Hint: 

• The hike will proceed no matter what the weather. Should dthere be any changes, participants will be informed directly by the guide in good time.
• Max. number of participants per group: 10 people
