Alpin​-​ und Tourismusmuseum Gaschurn

The Montafon Alpine and Tourism Museum in Gaschurn has been housed in a historic Montafon-style house since 1992. Set against the backdrop of the impressive architecture—noted for its simplicity and beauty—of this old wooden house from the early 19th century and its former resident, the priest, alpine pioneer, and church musician Franz Josef Battlogg (1836–1900), the museum—set amid the impressive mountain backdrop of the Silvretta and Verwall ranges—focuses on the alpine and tourism history of the Montafon through permanent and rotating exhibitions. Battlogg, a former early-morning mass celebrant from Gaschurn, once lived here and earned an international reputation as an alpine pioneer and exceptional choir director in the late 1860s and 1870s. He described Gaschurn as the “gateway to the great mountain world” and published numerous accounts of his mountain tours. In doing so, he became a pioneer of alpine tourism in the region.

Guided tours outside of regular opening hours are available at any time by appointment
