Tour description

Join Erna as she explores the active side of Tschagguns and discover the various sports facilities and recreational opportunities for summer and winter along the Ill River.

In Tschagguns, the enthusiasm of the people of Montafon for sports is clearly evident. Numerous sports facilities together form the Sportarena Montafon, making the town a popular venue for national and international competitions. The diverse infrastructure offers opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and athletic development.

The history of winter sports has also left a special mark on Tschagguns: In 1947, Vorarlberg’s first chairlift opened here, which was also the longest chairlift in Austria at the time. On the Gaglaweg, you’ll accompany Erna to various sports facilities and discover just how diverse the active and recreational life is around Tschagguns.

What is a Muntafuner Gaglaweg?

In the Montafon dialect, “Muntafuner Gaglaweg” means something like “Montafon Children’s Trail.” For your adventure, you’ll need the Gaglaweg backpack. You can rent one for a deposit at one of our tourist information offices or citizen service centers. Inside, you’ll find everything you need for your hike.
A unique puzzle awaits you on every Gaglaweg trail. Once you’ve solved it, you’ll receive a small gift. You can also purchase one of eleven Erna souvenir jars at a special price of €4.00. Each trail is dedicated to a different theme and takes you through the diverse landscape of the Montafon.
So: Grab your backpack, join Erna, and set off on a journey of discovery together.
You can find more information about our Muntafun Gagla Trails HERE.

Directions
From Aktivpark Montafon, follow the signs toward St. Gallenkirch. After about 400 meters, turn right toward the Tschagguns ski jump complex. As soon as you reach Montafonerstraße, you’ll see the ski jump complex on the opposite side of the street.

Then walk back along the same path to the bike path. There, keep to the right and follow the bike path past the golf course. After a while, you’ll come to a pedestrian bridge on the left. Cross the Ill River and follow the walking path back toward Aktivpark Montafon.

During your hike, you’ll first see the Zamang Bahn valley station on your right, followed shortly afterward by the soccer stadium. Stay on this side of the Ill until you reach the parking lot across from the Sutterlütti. There, cross the pedestrian bridge and turn left immediately afterward.

Now follow the Ill Bike Path. After a short while, you’ll pass the Negrelli Fountain, which is a great spot to take a break. A few meters later, you’ll see the Vorarlberg School Sports Center on your right. Shortly before the end of the tour, you’ll also pass the Alpenbad Montafon. You’ll then arrive back at the Aktivpark Montafon.
