Access
Starting from the top station of the Versettla Cable Car, the trail takes you past Nova Stoba, down to Alpe Nova, and further into the Novatal valley. After about an hour, you’ll reach Seressee, where a signpost on the rock marks the continuation of the ascent to the Madrisella via ferrata.
It’s best to put on your harness and helmet here so you don’t expose yourself to the risk of falling rocks unnecessarily near the start. Then follow the cairns uphill to the left and, after about 15 to 20 minutes, you’ll reach the start at the base of the rock face.
Route Description
Right at the start, an almost vertical wall awaits, demanding stability and arm strength. After a short breather, the next wall section follows before you reach a special resting spot: a bench carved into the rock with an impressive view.
After a short descent, the most challenging section of the via ferrata begins: a nearly vertical wall about 150 meters high. With plenty of air beneath your feet, you climb this wall, then follow a short ridge and begin the final wall section.
After the final strenuous section, a traverse and the concluding, nearly vertical meters lead to the exit. You should plan about 2.5 to 3 hours for the via ferrata.
From the exit, you’ll reach the summit of the 2,466-meter-high Madrisellaspitze in just a few minutes. There, you’ll be rewarded with a sweeping panoramic view and an impressive look down at the via ferrata route.
Descent
The descent begins right at the summit cross via the marked hiking trail. This trail leads over the Versettla and past the castle back to the Versettla Bahn mountain station. Alternatively, you can descend to Nova Stoba and stop for a bite to eat there. You should plan about 1.5 hours for the descent.
