Montafon Hut Round | Heinrich Hueter Hut to Latschau
Tour description
The final leg of the Montafon Hut Trail takes you from the high mountains of the Rätikon through the diverse cultural landscape of the Montafon, across alpine meadows and through the Matschwitz mountain village, to Latschau.
On this stage, you’ll leave the high-Alpine mountain world with its striking limestone peaks behind and return to the cultural landscape of the Montafon, shaped by alpine farming. Cultivated alpine meadows, traditional Maissäss landscapes, and views of the Rätikon peaks will accompany you along the way.

The Alpenmosaik Montafon brings the region’s scenic diversity to life. The four exploration areas—Verwall, Silvretta, Rätikon, and the valley—offer different perspectives on nature, the landscape, and culture.

Heinrich Hueter Hut
Directions
From the Heinrich Hueter Hut, the trail first takes you to the Alpengasthof Rellstal. After an ascent of about half an hour, the trail continues across the Platzisalpe toward Außergolm. There, follow the signs to the Golmer Bergstation and hike to Grüneck. From the mountain station, follow the signs toward the Lindauer Hut for about ten minutes before the trail turns left and descends to Matschwitz.
In Matschwitz, you’ll reach the mountain pasture settlement of the same name, with views of the surrounding peaks of the Rätikon. Passing the Matschwitz Chapel, the Golmer Alpweg trail leads you further down to Latschau.

Getting to the Starting Point
The starting point for this tour is the Heinrich Hueter Hut.
By public transportation:
The Montafon regional bus and the Montafonerbahn provide convenient and flexible travel throughout the valley. Trains and buses run regularly between the towns, every half hour or every hour, depending on the route. You can find the right connection HERE. The nearest bus stop for this tour is Vandans Golmerbahn. To continue on to the Heinrich Hueter Hut, you can take the hiking bus. There is a fee for this service, and reservations must be made in advance. Further information you can find HERE.
By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit, then follow the Montafoner Straße L188 into the Montafon. Depending on your travel plans, you can park your car at the Golmerbahn valley station in Vandans or at the Golmerbahn mid-station in Latschau. For a multi-day tour, you also have the option of parking your car in the underground garage at the Löwen Hotel in Schruns for up to one week. For the hike, we recommend that you wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Due to high demand at the huts, we recommend that you reserve a spot well in advance directly with the respective huts.
