Montafon theatre hike

In 2026, the Montafon will once again take centre stage: with ‘Grenzerfahrungen am Zauberberg’, the teatro caprile ensemble is presenting a new theatrical walk at around 1,500 metres above sea level, below the Madrisa. Across 14 stops and 16 scenes, nature, contemporary history and the present day intertwine. Accompanied by experienced hiking guides, you’ll hike for around five hours through the alpine landscape, repeatedly immersing yourself in condensed theatrical scenes. At the heart of the piece is the question: what does it mean to cross boundaries – physically, socially and personally? The play is performed in German, with some dialectal accents. At the start of the walk, all participants receive a programme booklet describing the individual scenes to aid understanding.

Meeting point: 09.45 am at the church entrance, opposite the Hotel Madrisa

Duration: approx. 5 hours

Age limit: 13 years and over

Refreshments: After the walk, you’ll have the chance to chat with the ensemble at Pizzeria Barga.

Arrival: Why not leave your car behind? You can find timetables and connections at vmobil.at. If you’re travelling in your own car, free day parking is available at the valley station of the Gargellner Bergbahnen. Please note that overnight parking is prohibited there between 10.00 pm and 6.00 am.

Equipment:

• Hiking boots with good tread 
• Mountain clothing suitable for the weather 
• Sun and rain protection 
• Backpack with a drink and a snack, and a seat pad if required 
• Optional: hiking poles

• The hike will take place whatever the weather. Should there be any changes, guests will be informed in good time.
