Muttjöchle summit trail

The Montafon Alpine Mosaic showcases the scenic diversity of the Montafon. Four exploration areas—Verwall, Silvretta, Rätikon, and the valley—highlight how geology, nature, and the cultural landscape are interconnected.

Along 34 themed trails, you can discover the unique features of these diverse landscapes. Starting points, themes, and stories along the trails continually offer you new perspectives on the Montafon.

Starting Point
Silbertal, upper station of the Kristbergbahn

Directions
From the Kristbergbahn mountain station, the trail first takes you through the mining-shaped landscape of the Kristberg. The trail winds gently up and down as you hike through the shady Muttwald forest.

Passing blueberry bushes and alpine roses, the trail eventually leads up to the summit of the Muttjöchle. After a break with a view of the Montafon mountains and the Arlberg, you’ll hike back along the same trail to the Kristbergbahn mountain station.

Getting to the Starting Point
The starting point for the tour is the Kristbergbahn mountain station in Silbertal. Please note the Kristbergbahn’s operating hours.

By public transportation:
The Montafon regional bus and the Montafonerbahn provide convenient and flexible travel throughout the valley. Trains and buses run regularly between the towns, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. You can find the right connection HERE. By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit, then follow the L188 into the Montafon. After crossing the railroad tracks, turn left at the next intersection and follow the road to the roundabout. From there, follow the signs into Silbertal to the Kristbergbahn. Paid parking is available at the Kristbergbahn valley station.

For this hike, we recommend a daypack with a rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, and weather-appropriate, durable clothing layered according to the "layering principle."

You should also bring sunscreen and rain gear, a first-aid kit, a pocket knife, a cell phone, and maps. Depending on your needs, trekking poles and a headlamp may also be useful.

The view from the terrace of the Panoramagasthof Kristberg invites you to linger and enjoy yourself after your hike.

If the hike to the Muttjöchle is too short for you, you can extend the hike toward the Sonnenkopf and hike back to Kristberg via the Obere and Untere Wasserstubenalpe and the Wildried high moor.
