From Naturraum Verwall, walk along the village road into the valley until you reach the “Alte Tankstelle” (old gas station). There, follow the hiking trail toward Ganifer and Kops. Passing under the Lifinar T-bar lift, the trail leads you via Lifinar on to Stelli.
Then follow the signpost toward Partenen Loch. At Partenen Loch, at 1,128 meters, continue toward Bellamaisäß until you reach a small bridge. After crossing it, you’ve reached the highest point of the hike. From here, you’ll enjoy a beautiful view over Partenen.
Continue hiking over the Bellamaisäß to the toll booth on the Silvretta High Alpine Road and then toward the valley station of the Vermuntbahn. Even from a distance, you can see the Gufelste, a strikingly split rock. According to legend, it commemorates an earlier conflict between the people of the Lower Engadine and those of the Montafon.
Heading out of the valley, the trail takes you past the Partenen swimming pool. A short detour to the left toward Innerbofa brings you to the Europatreppe 4000. With around 3,600 steps and a 700-meter elevation gain, it’s considered the longest straight staircase in Europe.
Afterward, walk back a short distance along the same road and turn left across the meadow toward the Vermunt power plant. After the power plant, you’ll see the Rifa reservoir on your left. Cross Montafonerstraße carefully. Ahead of you is a tunnel-like entrance carved into the rock. Behind it lies Kopswerk I, built directly into the mountain, which has been generating electricity since 1969.
Follow the village road back into the valley. Along the way, you’ll pass the birthplace of Bishop Rudigier and see the Vallülasaal, Partenen’s former “movie theater.” From there, it’s just a few meters back to the starting point.
