Starting Point
St. Gallenkirch, Galgenul soccer field

Directions
The trailhead is located at the parking lot by the soccer field or at the Silvretta Montafon maintenance yard. From there, you’ll reach the Galgenul Loop via a short connecting trail. If you’re arriving by bus via the Montafonerhüsli stop, cross the wooden bridge toward Gargellen and then turn left to reach the trailhead. The trail runs along the floodplain forest by the Ill River. After about 800 meters, the route crosses to the opposite side of the field and leads back to the starting point.

End Point
St. Gallenkirch, Galgenul soccer field

Please note: Depending on snow and weather conditions, the trail route and starting point may change on short notice.

Getting to the starting point

The recommended starting point is the Galgenul soccer field in St. Gallenkirch.

By public transportation:
With the Montafon regional bus and the Montafonerbahn, you can get around the valley comfortably and flexibly. Trains and buses run regularly between the towns, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. You can find suitable connections in the cleVVVer mobil schedule app. The bus stops for the start and end of this tour are Montafonerhüsli or Valisera Bahn. From there, you can reach the trailhead via a short walk or a connecting cross-country ski trail.

By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit. Then follow the Montafonerstraße L188 through the Montafon valley to St. Gallenkirch. Parking is available near the soccer field, heading toward the Valisera Bahn valley station.

Important Information

You'll find restrooms and places to eat in the center of St. Gallenkirch as well as near the Valisera Cable Car.

You can use the cross-country ski trails in the Montafon for free.

If you don’t have your own equipment, there are various places in the Montafon where you can rent winter sports gear.

The cross-country ski trails are groomed by the relevant municipalities or mountain railways, depending on weather and snow conditions. A sufficient and stable snow cover is required for machine grooming. The current trail status is continuously updated by the responsible staff on site.

Tips

Via the connecting trail along the Ill River, you can reach numerous other cross-country trails in Innermontafon. It connects the Galgenul Loop with the various circuits all the way to the Mountain Beach Loop.

Thanks to its sunny location, the Galgenul is particularly enjoyable around noon. The trail also often remains in good condition for a long time.
