Tübinger Chalet at 2,191 m | Garneratal | 6793 Gaschurn

An oasis of peace. Full of adventures and challenges.

The Tübinger Chalet is situated at 2,191 m in one of the most beautiful valleys in Vorarlberg, nestled between towering cliffs at the end of the Garneratal below the Plattenspitze. The secluded Garneratal is a particularly picturesque valley and is considered an insider tip in the Montafon. The Montafon band ‘Krauthobel’ has sung of the valley’s beauty.

The Tübinger Chalet is a rewarding excursion destination and starting point for various hikes, mountain and climbing tours. In winter, mountaineers also appreciate its location for impressiveski tours
The rustic winter room is open in winter and provides everything required for the winter season: an oven, a sleeping area with 15 blankets, a toilet and a small emergency supply for those seeking shelter. A cash box is provided for payment.

Thomas and Birgit: Their passion for the mountains runs through their veins
The Tübinger Chalet, which was opened in 1908, has been leased by Thomas Amann and run by his sister Birgit for over 20 years. She is considered the good soul of the chalet and is responsible for everything to do with running it. “I visited a chalet for the first time when I was five years old. I’ve had chalet fever ever since!” she says with a grin.

They both inherited their passion for the mountains from their father, who successfully applied for the lease of the Tübinger Chalet in 1991. When he died five years later, Thomas and Birgit took over the business. Their guiding principle for running the chalet is clear: “The wellbeing of our guests and the big outdoors are very close to our hearts.”

The 43 year-old spends all summer in the mountains and successfully runs the chalet with the help of her team. Her brother supports her at the chalet two to three times a week. Thomas’ wife deals with the paperwork and their two daughters help their parents at the chalet for three weeks during the summer holidays. So the Tübinger Chalet is a real family business. The Amann siblings are particularly thankful for the team of volunteers surrounding Ralf Meier, who put their time and effort into keeping the approximately 30 km of hiking trails around the Tübinger Chalet in good condition every year.

It is very clear to Thomas what makes chalet life so great: “The peace and quiet. Apart from the chalet telephone, there are no mobiles up here. At 10 o’clock in the morning, when our guests are out and about in the mountains, we have breakfast together on the sun terrace. The tranquillity and the open view do you a lot of good,” the 49 year-old explains.

Roast pork and strudel
The guests of the Tübinger Chalet are pampered with traditional home-made food created with regional ingredients. The Kaiserschmarrn (sugar raisin pancakes) and the roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut are particularly popular.

Thomas also very much recommends trying the desserts made by his sister, who often spends time in the kitchen and has a knack for sweet dishes. “Her home-made strudel variations are unrivalled,” her brother says, beaming with pride.
