Montafoner Rätikon Circuit | Golmerbahn mountain station to Douglass Hut
Tour description
A varied high-mountain hike through the Rätikon with breathtaking views, several mountain passes, and the turquoise-blue Lünersee at the end of the trail.
The Rätikon Circuit winds through the distinctive mountain landscape of the Rätikon, where light-colored limestone cliffs, blooming alpine meadows, and striking peaks come together. Sulzfluh, Drei Türme, and Drusenfluh define the landscape and give this hut-to-hut hike its unique character.
The route features two prominent passes: the Schweizer Tor and the Verajoch. At Lünersee, the importance of hydropower to the region becomes evident. An overnight stay in Switzerland also offers the opportunity to explore the Prättigau.

Directions
From the Golmerbahn mountain station, the trail first leads you toward the Golmer Kreuzjoch at 2,261 meters and continues over the Golmer Joch at 2,124 meters to the Latschätzkopf at 2,219 meters. From the Kreuzjoch, the trail descends to the Hätaberger Joch at 2,154 meters and then continues downhill to just above the Obere Zaluandaalpe.
From there, the trail continues to the Schweizer Tor. Passing the customs house, it leads to the Verajoch and then descends toward Lünersee. Just before the lake, you’ll pass the Alpe Lünersee. Afterward, the trail veers right around Lünersee to the Douglass Hut.

The starting point for the tour is the Golmerbahn mountain station in Latschau (Grüneck).
By public transportation:
The Montafon regional bus and the Montafonerbahn provide convenient and flexible travel throughout the valley. Trains and buses run regularly between the towns, every half hour or every hour depending on the route. You can find the right connection HERE. By car:
Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit, then follow the Montafoner Straße L188 to Tschagguns. From Tschagguns, you’ll reach the higher-elevation town of Latschau. Free parking is available at the Golmerbahn.
Important Information
This challenging hike takes you through alpine terrain. We recommend sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction, plenty of food and drinking water, and weather-appropriate clothing. Hiking poles can help you on the ascents and descents.
Plan your daily stages carefully and book your overnight stays at the mountain huts well in advance.
Tips
Be sure to set aside enough time to take in the views of the striking peaks of the Rätikon. Especially around the Schweizer Tor and at Lünersee, you’ll find breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
