My Montafon Arlberg Marathon

It’s all change in 2020!

Well, almost. The Montafon Arlberg Marathon will not take place in its usual format this year, but the diverse trail with all its fabulous views of the peaks of the Verwall Alps remains the same – the difference being that you decide the day, the starting location and with whom you will run your very own Montafon Arlberg Marathon this summer.

From 26 June to 15 September 2020, we are offering the option of running the trail normally known as T33 on your own, but you can still receive a rating if you wish. It is completely up to you whether you start your run from St. Anton am Arlberg or from Silbertal. All that matters is that you have your MyMAM2020 pass stamped at the checkpoints provided in order to receive your goody bag and to take part in the prize draw as well as the official rating.

Route overview

Depending on the version you choose, the start and finish are located by the Kristbergbahn in Silbertal or by the Rendlbahn in St. Anton am Arlberg. The route itself remains the same – only heading in the opposite direction.

Far away from busy roads, you’ll run through the Natura 2000 Verwall area along forest and hiking trails. The entire experience is accompanied by a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. During your run, not only will you cross the state border between Vorarlberg and Tyrol, which boasts the most beautiful landscape, but you won’t come across a single asphalt road either! Whether you’re a runner, walker or hiker: the My Montafon Arlberg Marathon presents every participant with a unique experience in the great outdoors.

In terms of the scenery, the 33 kilometres are a real treat for the eyes – there’s no doubt about that. Nevertheless, this stretch is not to be underestimated, since it leads across partly high-alpine terrain. Very good physical fitness, endurance and sure-footedness are therefore essential! In addition, you should also be sure to take along plenty of food and drink, since there are very few snack stops along the way.  Of course, there are also several places to stop along the route, such as the Untere Gaflunaalpe, the Fellimännle alpine hut, the Teich inn and the Hasahüsli mountain inn (approx. 5 minutes from the run course), which will spoil you with regional delicacies. At the start or finish in the Silbertal, the Hotel Hirschen, the Hotel Silbertal and the Hotel Bergkristall will tempt you to take a break.

Rise to the challenge of completing one of the most beautiful and pristine natural trails between Vorarlberg and Tyrol – alone or with company* and at your own pace: the decision is yours!
*If you are planning on running the My Montafon Arlberg Marathon in a group, we ask that you please observe the current distancing rules.

How it works!

At both possible starting locations (the Kristbergbahn in Silbertal and the Rendlbahn in St. Anton am Arlberg), there are information boards and boxes from which you can take your pass at the start of each route. This card should be stamped at the respective starting point and at the finish line; you will find checkpoints for doing so at all of these locations. The exact locations of the boxes and stamp checkpoints are visible on the interactive route map.

In order to receive your goody bag and take part in the prize draw, simply post your MyMAM pass in the box provided at the finish line. You also have the option of handing in your pass at all tourism offices in the Montafon, the citizen services office in Silbertal or at the tourism office in St. Anton am Arlberg and taking your goody bag home with you directly. Otherwise, we will be happy to send your you MyMAM goody bag by post.

For the especially ambitious runners, we have also set up a race category. To take part, in addition to handing in your stamped pass, simply use this form to submit your tracking data for the run, and you’ll be listed in the race rating right away. To track the run, you may use a running watch or any app of your choosing.
Important: your name, the date, running time and route must be visible in the tracking data.

The fastest runners from the race rating will receive an award on 30 September 2020 at 7.30 pm in an online award ceremony. The winners’ categories will be divided as follows:

  • The top 3 men under 30, under 50 and over 50 (one for each of the two routes)
  • The top 3 women under 30, under 50 and over 50 (one for each of the two routes)

The top 3 in each category will each receive the traditional Montafon Arlberg Marathon winner’s bell. The participants of the largest club will receive an MAM running shirt printed with the name of the club and its logo.
