Quality family time
Your Summer in Gargellen
It’s not always the big things that children remember later in life. Often, it’s the little moments that stay with them forever: the sense of pride after completing their first via ferrata. The laughter during a thrilling ride on a mountain cart. Or the moment when curious goats by the side of the trail wait to be petted.
In Gargellen, the focus isn’t on attractions, but on shared experiences. Here, every day of your vacation becomes a little journey of discovery—full of nature, activity, and time for each other.
The family adventure gets off to a relaxed start with the Schafbergbahn. Once you reach the top, the new playground at the mountain station invites you to climb, swing, and slide—all while taking in the view of the impressive mountain scenery.
Right next door, the Schafberg Hüsli welcomes food lovers of all ages. Whether it’s a hearty mountain breakfast, savory Keesknöpfli, or a sweet Kaiserschmarrn—this is the perfect place to recharge for your next adventure.
Afterward, set off on a discovery tour along the Gargellner Schafberg trails. Together with Marie, Paul, and Johann—the valley’s former residents—families can explore the Schafberg on three varied themed trails.
For little adventurers, the “Shepherdess Marie” loop trail (walking time: about 2 hours) is a real highlight. Here, exercise becomes play, and every section of the trail holds a new surprise. Children balance on rocks, search the stream bed for hidden gold nuggets, or splash around at the hollowed-out tree trunk that serves as a water fountain.
Along the way, the hidden “Steehüsli” invites you to take a short break. And at the “Gäßscherm,” curious goats and the friendly donkeys Clemens and Caruso are waiting for some loving pets behind their soft ears.
Along the way, children discover nature with all their senses—and often don’t even realize how many steps they’ve already taken.
When the Journey Itself Becomes the Highlight
After a long hike, instead of taking the gondola, you’ll enjoy an extra dose of fun on the way down to the valley.
On Vorarlberg’s longest Mountaincart track , the descent becomes an adventure. Almost like driving a go-kart—only on three wheels and without a motor—you’ll safely cruise back down the forest trails into the valley with plenty of fun.
An experience that delights more than just kids.
On a Discovery Tour with Erna
If you enjoy puzzles, you should check out the Muntafuner Gaglaweg .
Equipped with the Gaglaweg backpack, families can join Erna on an exciting journey of discovery through nature. Along the way, there are tricky challenges, playful stations, and even a small reward at the end. This turns every hike into a little adventure.
Growing Together Beyond Our Limits
Whether you’re traveling with older children or are a beginner looking to get a taste of via ferrata for the first time, the Röbischlucht via ferrata is the perfect adventure for you.
After an easy start, where you can familiarize yourself with the equipment and the terrain step by step, the via ferrata gradually gets more challenging. Before long, you’ll be making your way along the rocky gorge while the waters of the Röbi rush far below—an exciting nature experience that gives you that special thrill.
Despite the impressive scenery, the route remains manageable and is ideal for families with children who have climbing experience, as well as for anyone looking to try their first via ferrata. Sturdy footwear and appropriate via ferrata gear are, of course, required.
A special highlight awaits you toward the end of the tour: The trail leads upward via metal steps right next to a small waterfall—an unforgettable finale before the return trip takes you back to the village in about 25 minutes.
And if you’d like to treat yourself after your climbing adventure, stop by the Alpe Rongg. A slice of homemade cake or a light snack tastes twice as good after you’ve conquered your first via ferrata.
There's plenty to discover in the valley, too...
After the mountain adventure, the day’s vacation activities continue in the village.
The new tennis court and fun court are perfect for playing tennis, soccer, or basketball. Kids quickly find new playmates, while parents can relax and watch or join in themselves.
Animal lovers will be in their element at Vergalden with the mountain horses. Here, children can get to know the ponies and horses, groom and feed them, and have their first riding experiences—a special treat for little horse fans.
The best memories are made together
A summit reached together. | A marmot that suddenly crosses the path. | The first gold nugget in the stream. | A race on a mountain cart. | Or simply taking a break on a bench with a view of the mountains. | It’s precisely these moments that make a family vacation in Gargellen special . | Not perfectly planned. | But genuine.
Summer in Gargellen means: spending time outdoors together, going on adventures, taking a deep breath, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
We look forward to seeing you!
